Quizzes

We take a SS quiz after every lesson

They are worth 4-5 points in my gradebook (a test is worth 100)

Really the quiz is a check for understanding if they were here in class and paying attention they should do just fine

However if they get the quiz back and they missed a couple then they probably want to go back and review

If they are absent on the day of a quiz they will get it back completed with the answers and an "ex" will be on top which means an excused in my gradebook.

If they have been absent leading up to the quiz I will still have them take it and we will see how they do.  If it is not good I will excuse them but they normally surprise themselves and end up only missing one question if not getting them all correct!

There is also one question on each quiz that is a replica of a test question so these quizzes also become a great way to study

There is also a bonus question on every quiz so they have an opportunity to earn an extra credit point as well

4th grade's quizzes are 4 questions with 1 bonus

5th grade's quizzes are 5 questions with 1 bonus

Vocabulary Tests

We will have a vocabulary test with every chapter as well.  The students will receive the words they are responsible for knowing as well as the chapter study guide on blue paper on day 1 of the new chapter.

They will need to use the glossary in the back of the book and write out the definitions of these words on a piece of loose-leaf paper and place it in their binder.

The definitions will be due on the day of the test

The vocabulary test will consist of matching and fill in the blank.  A word bank will be given

Chapter Tests

At the end of every chapter the students will complete the chapter test.

The test will consist of multiple choice and short response questions

The study guide that is given at the beginning of the chapter does not need to be filled out and handed in- it is up to the student of how they are going to use it to study.  My suggestion would be to answer most of the questions and then make sure that a conversation can be had about each topic
