Hello everyone. This is a very busy week at St. Joe's. The children are very busy and excited about VIP on Thursday and Friday. We hope to see everyone there. Please note that dismissal on Friday is at noon. This week's reading story is John Muir and His Dog, Stickeen. The genre is historical nonfiction. The children are working on Spelling lesson 35, which is homophones. In Language Arts we are continuing to study adverbs. Hopefully, we will get a short quiz in before the end of the year. We had a visit from Marine Corporal Frank Zarate last week which was very inspiring and the children have been writing about his talk. Again, Mrs. Schultz and Mrs. Carbone want to thank everyone for their support this year. It was very much appreciated. We hope to see everyone at the VIP parent show on Thursday morning at 8:30. Your children have done a great job!

April11-20
We hope everyone had a wonderful weekend outdoors in this beautiful weather. Our Reading story this week is Welcome to Chinatown. It is a TV newscast. There are 10 (not the usual 6-8) new vocab words this week. The children should review on Thursday for our quiz on Friday. This week's Spelling lesson is 31. We will continue with the Lenten season with studying the symbols of Lent and introducing the meaning of the Triduum. Our Lenten chain is growing. Please join us for stations led by our 8th graders this Friday at 1:20 in the school hall.
Since next week is a short week, we will have our Unit 5 Reading Test. Please tell your child to take his time while he is doing this test. Each article/story on the test needs to be read twice before answering the questions. We are all in such a hurry that we sometimes do not score the grade we deserve. We will have a review lesson in Spelling and therefore will not have a test. Please ask your child how he is coming along on this quaters's book reports. Tha requirements are the same as last quarter and all the forms went home in the Friday folder last week. Have a blessed Easter...

Spring is here!!!!!!!
We hope everyone had a wonderful spring break. We have a busy week ahead of us in 4th grade. This week's reading story is Mangrove Wilderness. It is narrative non-fiction and can be difficult to comprehend. As usual it would help to reread the story on Thursday evening in preparation for Friday's quiz. In Language Arts we have finished the Diocesan writing test and are continuing to work on a writing contest entry for the Chicago Tribune. Spelling this week is Lesson 29, plural possessives. The children already know the rules, but still need to practice the list words. We will go to Reconciliation as a class on Wednesday. We are working on our Lenten promises and our chain is growing. Just ask your child. Again, we will attend stations on Friday at 1:20. All are invited to join us.. Have a great week!

New Carpet
Hello again, We have just been told we will be getting new carpeting in the 4th grade rooms over Christmas break. Therefore, the children will have to bring home their notebooks, folders, and pencil cases over the break. They can leave their text and workbooks here at school. We are sorry for this inconvenience. Have A Merry Christmas and Best Wishes in the new year.
