Week of October 28th

Good Afternoon!

Happy Halloween Week!  We are looking forward to Thursday and celebrating in our classrooms.  Remember students may wear JEANS and a HALLOWEEN or ST. JOE'S top.

Also mass will be celebrated on Friday of this week- All Saints Day.  The 4th and 5th graders will follow a Monday schedule tomorrow (Tuesday) and on Friday our schedule will be slightly modified.

Hmmmmmmm anything else???  OH YEAH that's right- 1ST QUARTER REPORT CARDS go home on FRIDAY!!! :)

This week in...

Reading: The Three Little Cyberpigs.  Our reading test will be on Monday (11/4).  It is going to be hard to fit reading in on Thursday due to the Halloween parties so Friday will be our review day for the story.  We are also working on Author's Purpose and Perspective.

Spelling: Lesson 11- Workbook is still due on Thursday and our test will still be on Friday

Religion:  We will be looking at each Commandment more closely this week.  Also Mrs. Carbone's class should have an open book Chapter 3 test on either Tuesday or Wednesday

4th LA: Nouns

5th LA:  Quiz on Tuesday over pages 98-99

4th SS:  Chapter 6 Lesson 2- Southeast Weather and Climate.  We will also be doing some research on Hurricanes-  Most of the work will be done in class however some students may need to finish a few things up over the weekend.

5th SS:  Chapter 6 Lesson 2 and 3.  We will most likely have a review day next Monday with a test on Tuesday and Wednesday

*Miss Winter updated the teacher ease gradebook for upcoming assignments in Social Studies ONLY for 4th and 5th grade.  Please look at the date due and it might make more sense of why a grade is not in it yet or we are not done with/started that lesson yet!  Also please know that these dates can change overnight!  Thanks!

Social Studies: Northeast Letter

Just wanted to make a quick change about the due date to the social studies letter and scrapbook pages- everything will be due on Monday.  I told the students if they wanted me to check over their rough drafts to get it in to me by Thursday so I can get them back to them by Friday so they can complete their final copy.

Thank you!

Week of October 21st

Good Afternoon!

Back to a normal 5 day week! It is also the last week of the first quarter. Report cards will be going home next week and conferences are soon after. We have a lot going on this week starting with our field trip to see Frindle tomorrow. Make sure your student has a jacket- we are walking to the Tivoli and it's safe to say we are officially in fall weather!

This week in…

Religion: We are still studying The 10 Commandments- we should have a chapter 3 open book test on Friday

Spelling: Lesson 10- workbook due Thursday and Test Friday

Reading:  We will be reading Justin and the Best Biscuits in the World.  We will be studying plot in this realistic fiction piece and there will be a test on Friday.

4th LA: singular and plural nouns

4th SS: We will begin Chapter 6 this week and begin learning about the Southeast.  Today they had time in class to work on their scrapbook pages and their letter about their tour of the Northeast.  Both of those will be due on Friday.  Once the rough draft is written (hopefully by Wednesday) I will take it and look at it and make corrections for the final copy.  The final copy is to be written in erasable pen and in cursive.  The sloppy copy is their choice.

5th LA: singular and plural nouns

5th SS:  Chapter 4 Lesson 1 and Latitude and Longitude

Loooooooong Weekend

Good Afternoon!

Just a few notes-

If you have any spare aluminum foil could you please send with your 4th grader on Tuesday?  Any that we do not use I will send back home!

Also we reminded the students that this might be a great weekend to get some book reports done.  We know they have math homework but not much of anything else.....

5TH GRADE SS:  In case you are looking.... reminder please use this weekend to get your chapter 3 vocabulary done and begin studying for your test.  On TUESDAY we will complete the review and review in class.  On WEDNESDAY you will take your chapter 3 multiple choice and vocab test and on THURSDAY you will take your short response.  If you write: "I really enjoyed learning about the trading happening in the western hemisphere and I can't wait to learn how the east and west finally connect"  on your Ch 3 vocabulary I will give you 5 extra points because you found this!

We hope everyone enjoys their long weekend and we will see you all on Tuesday!

Week of October 7th

Happy Short Week of School!

This week in...

Reading:  No story this week.  Instead we will be reading the chapter book Frindle by Andrew Clements to get ready for our play that we will be seeing.  This is a great story that discusses perseverance and asks the question, "When should you stand up for something you believe in?" We had great conversations today about that and the students did a nice job relating it to Martin Luther King Jr. - Such a great conversation!!!

Spelling:  Going back to week 6- review lesson.  Workbook and test on Wednesday

Religion:  Moses and the Ten Commandments

4th SS:  Northeast Train Tour- I am looking for some volunteers to come in next week for both 4th grade classes to help with a demonstration- It's not hard I promise I just need some extra hands!!  It would be on Tuesday from 10:50-11:30 and 11:30 to 12:10.  If you could volunteer for both times or just one please let me know by email.  Also I am looking for a few rolls of aluminum foil- could you please send with your student?  Thank you!!!

4th LA: Nouns!

5th SS:  Chapter 3 Lesson 3.  There will be a review day next Tuesday and test on Wednesday and Thursday of next week for chapter 3

5th LA: Nouns!
