4th Grade Reading

Our textbook this year is Harcourt Storytown.  This website has wonderful activities that that accompany each story.

This year we will be skipping some stories in our textbook.  The weeks that we do not have a story we will be looking at nonfiction or informational texts and using other materials.  Please check the blog to know if we have a story that week or if we are working on something else.

If we do have a story that week:
  • During most Storytown stories the students will be assigned vocabulary.  Vocabulary will be assigned on Monday and due on Thursday.  Word activities are to be written in their purple notebooks.  The students will be gluing the definitions into their notebooks on Monday during class.  Their homework will be to write the: Part of Speech, a sentence using the word, and a MOW (my own words).  Please use the glossary in the back of the books for part of speech.  There is also an online glossary that can be found on this page- you are able to print it as well!
  • There will be a focus skill each week.  Students will take notes on this skill in their purple reading notebooks.
  • On Fridays students will take the vocabulary and comprehension test over the story.  Please have your student reread the story on their own or to you on Thursday nights

Please check the weekly message in the blog to see what story we are reading each week!

Here is a different version of the book from what is below.  This version might be easier to use.  Please click: Full Book
